DAY 6 - TOWSON, MD
DAY 6 - TOWSON, MD
Just walked in the door after the drive back to Philly from our show at the Recher Theatre tonight. Every time we’ve played there, it’s kind of had this weird undertone during the set because I feel like everyone there (kids and us) feels a little weird about being in this bigger room and not being crammed into the Ottobar or something, but tonight was way different than usual and it was definitely my favorite show in Baltimore, period. I’ve never seen people there so excited for a band unless it was their hometown heroes (you know who I mean), and it felt really great to play the show. I know I keep saying it, but shows like the one tonight and the few before this one are exactly what I’ve needed.
After the show, I hung out in the bar they just opened outside the venue for a little bit and caught up with some people I’ve neglected to talk to in the past couple of years. Sorry guys, but hey, it was good catching up with you. I spent the ride home listening to “The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan.” I’ve never heard it the way I heard it tonight; it’s like suddenly the songs have taken on a whole new meaning for me. Goodnight.
It’s been forever (alright, about a month and a half) since I’ve been able to go to a small show and this was perfect. Most of the other bands were god awful. I was shocked to find out that not only was Valencia playing BEFORE Every Avenue, but also Cash Cash (seriously though, what the heck? I’m sure they’re very nice guys, but there’s absolutely no value to “$$’s” music.)
As for the band’s set itself, I had a blast. I don’t do much pit fun anymore and try to enjoy the show with my timid friends towards the back. During Valencia’s set, I was so annoyed that they weren’t headlining that I said “fuck it!” and pushed my way up front with the group of kids going nuts. It was like I was back in my sophomore year of high school rediscovering all of the excitement.
Bravo, Valencia! I hope to see you soon up in freezing cold Boston, MA.
